A big step has been taken toward providing jobs in a growing industrial market in the McAllen area.
Plans for a new research and education park for the entire south Texas region were announced at a public meeting at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, June 23rd. The park will be known as the McAllen Research and Education Park. It will be located on up to 400 acres of land very near the existing McAllen Foreign Trade Zone.
The park will focus on advanced and rapid response manufacturing. This will require a large skilled workforce. Ready to provide the skills for the workforce are the University of Texas, Pan American and South Texas College. The STC Tech Center is conveniently located just south of the proposed Research and Education Park area.
The park will operate under the direction of the North American Advanced Manufacturing Research and Education Initiative, better known as NAAMREI. The plans for NAAMREI are to build a world class advanced manufacturing industry to all of south Texas. Goals for the park are to develop as environment where new products and processes are created for competitive use around the world.
Partners in the McAllen Research and Education Park include:
The City of McAllen
The Univ. of Texas, Pan American
Region One Education Service Center
The McAllen Economic Development Corp.
